Jog-a-thon 2024

Our biggest fundraiser of the year! Hickory Hounds let’s set our paws in motion and raise some funds!


Our Jog-a-Thon is on Friday, March 29, 2024. We are raising money to help us get through the rest of the school year and start us off on the next! Your support helps to fund all of our PTA programs such as study trips, special assemblies, the library, Adventures in Art classes and much more!

We have set a fundraising goal of $50,000 for this event. We encourage all families to register on our online fundraising platform, PledgeStar. Creating an account will allow you to easily send donation requests to friends and family members and for us to track your student’s donations towards earning prizes.

Registration is FREE!

Using your web browser:

  1. Go to

  2. Click “Not Registered For This Year’s Event”

  3. Enter your name and email address (must be a non-etusd email), then click “Submit”

  4. Follow the instructions on-screen to register jogger(s)*

  5. Add the contact info of family and friends that you want to send pledge requests to.

*Please note, registration for the jog-a-thon is only for Hickory students and their classroom teacher.

Additional Registration Information:
Once you have registered and entered your student(s) as jogger(s), an individual fundraising page will be created for them and the system will email or texts pledge requests to the family and friends that you entered. Donations will be a flat rate, as we will not be counting laps run, but overall participation in the event.


The best way to receive and request donations is through sending out emails or text messages through Pledge Star to specific people. Emails and texts to your family/friends will come from a PledgeStar email/phone number, in case you would like to give them a heads up. You get notified each time a pledge is made, and you can track your pledge progress online.As your student gains donations, their fundraising goal will automatically increase by $30 on the fundraising page.

There is an automatic language translation button which will enable you to view any of the Pledge Star pages in your language of choice, as well as a language translation option for sending pledge request emails and texts.

Offline Donations

If you prefer to use a paper sheet to collect donations, you can download it here or pick up a copy in the front office. 

Donations of cash and checks will be accepted in addition to the online donations. Please submit them in an envelope labeled with the student’s name, teacher, classroom, who the donation is from and the amount. 


Paper pledge sheets and cash or check donations must be submitted by 3/29. You may submit them in a box at the front office or at the PTA tent at the Jog-a-thon event.

Event Details

Date and time: The Jog-a-thon will take place on Friday, March 29th with each grade participating according to the schedule:


9:45am - 10:30am: 2nd grade and 3rd grade

10:45am - 11:30am: TK, Kindergarten and 1st grade

11:45am - 12:30pm: 4th and 5th grade

Students are required to have submitted a PTA waiver form prior to participating in the Jog-a-thon.

Set Up

Each grade will have its own track on the field, and the students will be jogging for 30 minutes. There will be a spirit area between the two tracks where students can cheer on their classmates if they do not wish to jog, or if they would like to take a water break. Additionally, there will be an alternative track on the black top for students who require firmer turf to participate or those who prefer to participate in an area that is less crowded.

Prize Earning

All of our prizes and incentives are listed on the Hickory PledgeStar page. For students to be eligible for any of the individual or class prizes, donations have to be received by April 5, 2024 to count (cash donations due March 29, 2024). This includes any checks that may have been promised, or any corporate matching donation pledges. Donations received after that date are greatly appreciated but will not count toward prizes.

Virtual Jogger

Are you going to be gone on race day but would still like to help your class win some prizes? Good news, you can still sign up! Just follow the same steps and sign up on PledgeStar. You can jog or do a physical activity of choice for 30 minutes on your own time. Reminder: Registration is for Hickory students and their classroom teachers only.


Volunteers are needed to help us run this event. If you would like to volunteer during your child’s jog-a-thon time slot, please sign up here:

Parent participation

Parents who do not wish to volunteer can still attend the event to cheer on the joggers. Parents/guardians must check in with the front office with their ID and receive a visitor's badge. Please arrive with plenty of time before your child's run time as there may be a line to check in.


Only volunteers will be allowed on the jogging tracks and spirit area. There will be a designated area for all other parents to cheer/observe.

Water and Snacks

We will have bottled water available, but we encourage students to bring their own water bottles. The students will be provided a snack (courtesy of PTA) after their jogging time is complete.


We will award both individual and class prizes for setting up PledgeStar accounts, requesting donations, and money raised.


Individual prizes:

  • Top earning student: Principal for a day and silly string Mrs. Whitten and the PTA president

  • Top earning household: (New as of 3/22) There is now a prize for the top fundraising household! We recognize that fundraising for multiple children in a household can be a challenge because your list of contacts is the same for each child. The top fundraising household will get to choose a gift certificate from one of the following: Photography session by Annika Alexandra Photography, Escape Room from Planet Escape, or Harbor Freight gift card.

  • Reach the base fundraising goal: Raise $48 or more to receive a wrist pedometer

  • Register on PledgeStar: receive an item from the Treasure Box

  • If you register before 3/15 at 11:59 pm, you will receive a glow wrist band

  • Send 3, 9, or 15 fundraising emails or text messages: Receive special wrist bands for each message level.

  • Participate in the Jog-a-thon event: receive a medal 


Class prizes:

  • Top participating class for each grade (class that gets the most students to fundraise): Choose your own spirit day plus a special restaurant certificate for each student.

  • Top earning class, TK-2nd and 3rd-5th: Pick your prize! Options include: VIP lunch area, glow room dance party, mini carnival, or a special recess at Hickory Park. 

  • Class(es) that reach 100% in registration participation: (New as of 3/22) Any classes that have 100% of its students sign up on PledgeStar will get a special prize (TBD).  


Prize Distribution 

Treasure box prizes and glow bands will be distributed to students during their library time starting on 3/18 and will continue until the week after spring break. Prize winners will be printed out every Monday, so there may be a delay until the next week for your student to receive their prize.


Pedometers and other wristbands will begin distribution on 3/25 and will continue into the week after spring break.


The top earner prize and class prizes will be arranged for on a designated date. We will provide more information as it is available.
