Special Accommodations
A low stimulus carnival preview time will be available to students in SDC classes and their families, and other students who require accommodations. If your child attends an SDC class, no further action is needed and a pass will be issued through their class. If your child does not attend an SDC class but requires accommodations, please fill out this google form to let us know. A quiet room is also available throughout the event, located in the Science Lab.

Visual Arts & Diorama Contests
We’re excited to invite all Hickory students to enter into the Spring Carnival Visual Arts or Diorama Contest! This is your chance to let your imagination shine! Create an original piece based on the themes below and submit it by the deadline, 5/13/26. Artwork will be on display at the Spring Carnival on 5/15/26 for our school community to enjoy. Grab your art supplies and start creating—we can’t wait to see what you make! You may enter into one of the following contests--the 2D Visual Arts contests.
2D Visual Arts Contest Theme: My Dream Garden
- Imagine what your dream garden would look like and create an art piece! It can be realistic or imaginary--be sure to have fun with it! Examples of 2D art: Drawing (pencil, marker, pastels, etc), painting (acrylic, water color, etc), collage, and mixed-media. Your art can be on paper, canvas, cardboard, or anything flat.
- Size: 18" x 18" or smaller.
- Restrictions: Your visual arts submission should be 2D (flat, or mostly flat). Only physical mediums will be accepted (no digital artwork).
- PLEASE LABEL YOUR SUBMISSION WITH YOUR FIRST AND LAST NAME, GRADE LEVEL, AND TEACHER.
Diorama Contest Theme: Fairy Garden Magic
- Fairy gardens are magical spaces of make believe where little fairy friends can come to live. Create your own fairy garden in a shoe box!
- Size: The average shoebox (14” x 10” x 5” or smaller).
- Restrictions: Please do not use perishable or unwrapped food or materials.
- All parts must be secured to the box and not just placed, since we will need to move the dioramas around.
- PLEASE LABEL YOUR SUBMISSION WITH YOUR FIRST AND LAST NAME, GRADE LEVEL, AND TEACHER.
Winners:
- Ribbons will be given to the winners in each division for each category.
- The divisions will be TK-1st grade, 2nd-3rd grade, 4th-5th grade, and an accessible division. The categories are Visual Arts and Dioramas.
